NTT Docomo delivers flexible, scalable 5G Standalone service

NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest telecommunications service provider, sought to launch a 5G Standalone (SA) service to millions of business and consumer customers. They needed a 5G core and flexible infrastructure that would allow simultaneous, reliable connection of multiple high-volume terminals using high-speed, high-capacity telecommunication with extremely low latency.

NTT Docomo selected NEC Corporation’s 5G Core for SA, based on a cloud-native architecture running on Red Hat OpenShift. With ongoing, collaborative support from NEC and Red Hat Consulting, they were able to:

  • Improve network resource use and scalability
  • Simplify 5G service development
  • Enhance container adoption with expert strategic support
